So, what happened when East met West? And what the heck am I talking about?

Good questions, right.

This past week I published a report I’ve been working on for quite a while.  This free report is titled “How To Eat Like A Centenarian”.  More about what the report is all about in a minute but first I want to share something with you!

Let me ask you a question.  How long do you want to live?

I know that sounds like a question that has a pretty obvious answer.  Namely, as long as possible, right?  Well maybe not.  Let me tell you about a conversation I had with a very good friend the other day.

We were catching up, he has been a friend since college, and I was telling him about writing a free report I just finished; “The Centenarian Diet”.  He asked me what it was about and I told him it was about what to eat to lose weight quickly but it was based on the way the healthiest and longest living people in the world eat. He said he had a discussion with his wife recently and she said she had no desire to live too long as she looked at her bedridden father and mother.

That kinda threw me for a loop…

Probably just like you, I don’t picture myself bedridden in my later years.  I explained to him that this report was about what people do to be active as they age.  I bet that is your goal also.

But it got me to thinking that my friend’s wife has a point.  How we age is important.  If you look at these two women, who are just about the same age, their situations are very different.

How you want to age I’m sure is obvious.

This Is Really Scary

This is really scary! What is?

OK.  So each week when I post this video blog I think about how the information is going to help you.  And I hope most weeks I do exactly that.  Your feedback is what tells me whether I succeed or not…so, please, continue or start to leave me your comments.  For those comments…THANKS.

Back to this week’s blog! As I listen to your feedback the number one topic I hear is weight loss.

So I figured I’d do two things.

First, I’d see how big a problem obesity in America really is and, second, what can I do to help people who want to lose weight understand the problem and…more importantly, do something about it.

How big a problem is obesity in America?  To figure that out I headed to the internet and found that the CDC (US Centers For Disease Control & Prevention) has tracked this trend.  And what did I find?

What I found is probably best summed up by the phrase “yamma mamma it’s fright night!”.  But seriously, the trend in obesity and diabetes is crazy and this is really scary.

Watch this week’s short video and I bet you’ll be shocked just like I was.

So, how does any of this help us to tackle this problem?  Good question!

I’ve been asked to put together a plan on how to lose weight the fastest but….safely.

After a lot of work I am really pleased with how this plan came together.  And that plan will be published this week. It has a “jump start” two week meal plan to get you seeing  success quickly in losing the weight you want to lose .

So… if you or anyone you know would like to lose some weight safely I’d love to get this plan into your or their hands.

User’s Guide To Our Brain

Wouldn’t it be great if we had a user’s guide to our brain?

Bear with me for a second.

The other morning I was going for a run in my neighborhood and on the second lap I had a large retriever charge me barking to beat the band.   Instantly, I got a surge of adrenaline and the fight or flight syndrome kicked in.  The dog reached the invisible fence, stopped charging and off I went on the next laps.  Of yeah, I almost forgot; as instantly as the adrenaline kicked in so did my mouth dropping the F bomb. Fortunately, it was early so just the dog and I heard that.

But it got me thinking about how amazing our brain is.  All that adrenaline and fight or flight happened from that stimuli.  I didn’t have to give it a single thought.  Wouldn’t it be great to harness some of those same instincts toward the goals we want to accomplish?

Last week, I shot a video on how to use a food log.  A friend told me that was a lousy title for a video and he thought a lot of people wouldn’t even know what I meant by a food log. And you know what?  He was right.  At least judging by how few people watched that video compared to the number who normally watch my video blogs.

So let me take another swing at explaining what a food log is and how to use it.

First, here is a template for a food log if you’d like to download it.

So what does any of this have to do with a user’s guide to our brain?  Well, just like my instant reaction to my neighbor’s dog, our brain controls a lot of our actions obviously, both consciously and subconsciously.

Almost all of us want to either lose weight or maintain our weight, right?  Well a food log is nothing more than a way to track what we eat and that’s helpful.  But it’s even more helpful if we fill in a food log before we eat.  And why is that?  Because it makes us take a minute or two to think about what we are about to eat before we put it in our mouths.

Years ago when I was working to lose weight I saw a nutritionist who said “your arch nemesis is bits and bites”.  Well I didn’t know what she meant either as you’re probably saying “huh”?  What she meant was those stops be the pantry when I would throw a handful of nuts or raisins or both in my mouth without even thinking about it.

So a food log gives you a chance to engage your brain before you engage your mouth.

What’s your food log tell us?  That’s a really good question.  Good health and longevity is about 80% nutrition and 20% what happens in the gym.

I remember when I visited my first nutritionist and she asked me to keep a food log.  I was amazed at what I was eating and the “bits and bites” that snuck in.

Is there a secret to willpower?  Good question!

Last week I posted a blog on belly fat and losing weight from a

a  lecture The Pleasure Trap I heard by Doug Lisle Ph.D.

He explained why we are wired to feel good when we eat foods loaded

The Willpower Paradox on DVD.

This week’s video is a summary of his lecture.

It turns out that the science to the question “Is there a secret to willpower”

doesn’t support it is from Sigmund Freud’s theory of the id and ego (pretty heady stuff)

but rather willpower was shown to be greatly influenced by glucose as the

studies talked about in my video show.

p.s. – Oh yeah, and you gotta love the cord on my reading glasses.  I hear it even

works better if you put the cord behind your neck.

The pleasure trap - Belly Fat

A lot of people are searching to lose belly fat and get healthier.  If losing some

weight is  something you’d like to do then this week’s video is for you.

This past weekend I attended Plant Stock 2015 .  Most of the weekend’s

presentations were about the benefits of good nutrition and the dangers

of disease caused by poor nutrition.

If you have ever wondered why some people can eat just about anything

and not gain weight while others eat the same thing and gain weight

you’ll find this information really helpful.  This video summarizes

Dr. Doug Lisle’s work and I’d really recommend his book The Pleasure Trap .

Dr. Lisle explains the psychology of weight loss and why the Standard American Diet

promotes such easy weight gain. He explains why when you make the transition

from an unhealthy diet to a healthy eating plan everything in your instincts is

telling you what is wrong feels right and what is right feels wrong in the beginning

of that change process.

Our National Bird – Bald Eagle

I got to spend this past week in Scotland with my friend and

mentor, Dan Pena, for his 70th birthday.

It was a treat to celebrate this with him and as part of the

festivities we were joined by a master falconer.

We were able to see our national bird up close and personal.
